I was listening to one of the magazine style laid back sort of news programs BBC Radio 4 puts out over the weekend here in London...... they had a feature bemoaning the number of anniversaries of past news events that are featured in current News Programs....... 50 years since the making of the Wizard of Oz....... 70 years since the start of the Second World War......... 20 years since the storming of the Iranian embassy........ blah blah blah .......... in fact I had already noticed the amazing number of anniversaries the BBC in particular was pumping out.... and even prequels....... 3 years until the Soccer World Cup in SA..... 2 years to the Olympic Games in London....... by the way Im making up all the numbers in this up......... absolutely do not quote me on any of these ...... they are numbers totally off the top of my head and are probably completely wrong........

The radio 4 feature was claiming in a joke way to be the prequel to the day 4 years from now when the number of anniversaries in a news program is so great there will be no room for any actual news for the first time........... They were claiming the growth of anniversaries was to do with the larger number of celebrities whose births and deaths have to be remembered... Kings and Queens of course have their coronations to be remembered and pop stars their first number 1 hit...... blah blah......... but the main culprit in terms of the growth of the remembrance of anniversaries in their view was the rise of the internet....... researchers can just churn these things out like a factory production line.

So anyway I then go on to the New York Times website to check out the 'On this day in History' pages........ doing a little research of my own......... only to discover mega anniversaries for this weekend........ Did you know that over this weekend was the anniversary of George Eastman in 1888 patenting roll film and registering his trademark...... 'Kodak' ........ And that its the anniversary from back in 1781 of the founding of the city of Los Angeles by Spanish settlers....... and back in September 1985 the NYTimes had a special report seeming to link the violent street gang M19 with the Sandinistas in destabilizing Costa Rica........

These I think you will agree.. are pretty disparate anniversary themes.... but I think even the BBC might be impressed by my attempts to link them all together into a single image shown above........ and therefore conserve valuable airtime.......... hehehe

Cheers Jez XXXXXXXXXX .....

PS don't forget to check out our mining video on facebook......... hit the F up on the left of this page.......... become my friend then check it out....... :-))
